First Floor

A good portion of the first floor was modeled, within the constraints of the 3D printer.

The printable area of any file is 9" x 9" x 9". And the printer can only print objects more than 1mm thick. So I was limited: the model is at 1:50 scale, and covers only 2/3 of the first floor. As it was, some objects (the tables) still did not print, and the models are extremely fragile.

Here are the models. Roll the mouse over the image to see both the ZCorp model (white) and the Thermojet model (brown). The ZCorp produces models from a sintered starch-based product. It is extremely detailed and fragile, and creates no support material - the unsintered starch falls away. The Thermojet produces a wax deposition model, which does produce support material that can be hard to remove. Also fragile, this wax material can be used to make molds for casting using the lost-wax method.

Finally, here is a rendering of a corner of the first floor, from the original assignments. It attempts to be materially accurate. Rolling over the image will show a rendering that is materially inaccurate.
