4.455 - Integrated Building Systems | Prof. Les Norford

With Henry Chang and Zachariah Kramer

In this, the capstone Building Technology class at MIT, our final project sought to incorporate the skills learned in the four previous BT classes. This project was an analysis of a high-rise structure for a proposed mixed-use, office/residential building in New York City. We focused on the structural and ventilation designs, as both present radical alternatives to typical high-rise buildings: Natural ventilation was proposed as a major component of the cooling, and to facilitate this a hollow core had to be created in the center of the building. The images show an early proposal for the design of the building; structural models and analysis; and the ventilation simulation.
